About the Artist

Ever since grade school, when the other students would request drawings created by him, Richard's talent was recognized.  His various teachers would encourage him to pursue his interest in art, and when he reached High School and could take dedicated art classes, he knew that he would make his career in that field.

As a teenager he won his first "Best of Show" and "Purchase Prize" award.  He also was awarded a scholarship to the "Art Center College of Design" and studied under famed western artist Donald "Putt" Putman, graduating with "Honors" three years later.

He began a very successful career working in many different areas of art including the Hollywood motion picture industry.  His work has been published throughout the world and has been displayed at the "Delaware Art Museum", the "Canton Museum of Art", the "Society of Illustrators" in New York and at the "University of Maryland Art Gallery".

A few years ago Richard moved with his family to Reno, Nevada to concentrate on his fine art oil paintings.  He purchased a home with land enough for his wife to bring her horse, a warmblood, home to live as part of the family.  With such a graceful creature as a convenient model, Richard became inspired by the beauty and power of these wonderful animals and he began doing sketches and paintings of the local equine community.   His ability to capture the essence of the horse as well as the details of their individual personalities led to immediate interest in his work by the local horse owners.

He continues with the portrait work that he has been doing since his years spent creating images of motion picture stars in Hollywood.

Richard works in oils at his studio just north of Reno.
