Dorrine Sadilek Gallery

Becoming active in the Nevada Artists Association has resulted in many friendships that I cherish, and I credit learning how to present my art to being active in the Association.  I regularly show my work in our gallery at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Dorrine Sadilek was born and raised in Sacramento, California and has lived in various locations in California before moving to Hawaii in 1972.  She and her husband spent 13 years in Hawaii, and it was there that she went to the University of Hawaii to get her nursing degree.  This was a mid-life career change, and she graduated and got her nursing license when she was 46.  She managed to take a few art classes now and then, but she wasn't able to devote the time needed to improve her skills.  She and her husband of 50 years have lived in Carson City since 1988.  Dorrine came to Carson City to work for the Department of Prisons as a correctional nurse and retired in 1999 after 10 years of service.  With retirement she was able to pursue her passion for painting.  Now that she has the time to devote to painting, she is able to see a great deal of improvement.

When she retired she also joined the Nevada Artists Association and served three years as president of the Carson City Chapter.  Dorrine has explored various media and improved her skills by taking many workshops and just being around other artists.  She began her love affair with pastels through one of these workshops with Luverne Lightfoot.  Dorrine has studied watercolor for many years with Lady Jill Mueller, and although she still works in watercolor, pastel has captivated her imagination and is becoming her media of choice.  Many years ago she painted in acrylic and oil, and she plans on doing some oils this winter, hopefully, with rewarding results.
